A teen lashed out because he could not get the college courses to be a civil engineer, blaming this on the failure of the Dream act. He tucked a .38 caliber pistol under his chin and shot himself dead.

He could have got his degree in Mexico. Anyway, he committed the ultimate selfish act. No love for this loser. Now send his family packing!

Send the whole herd packing. Life owes no one anything. Get over it and go home to the country of origin. No one needs anyone here unless they are coming through the process legally.

But in the 11 pages of suicide notes that Hidalgo County investigators released to the family of Joaquin Luna on Friday, there's not a single mention of immigration or of the failed federal Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, as was mistakenly reported by various news outlets.

These post are disturbing. I hope he RIP and will pray for the family's tragic loss.
DogBlue, hotlink, paxildog, maybe you'd sound different if it was your son.
Conservative bloggers accused immigrant groups of exploiting Luna's death. Some cited news reports that sheriff's investigators, who declined to be identified
This is a matter for the illegal alien's own country.
It is NOT a reason to make illegal aliens any more than the criminals that they already are.....!

How much more despicable levels of low will illegal immigrant advocate groups stoop to. Add to that the politicans using this among other incidents to promote amnesty. It's all wrong on all levels and will eventually come back around and bite them in the !!! as it rightly should.

At the rate tuitions are going up, there will be a lot of students here legally that may not see their dream come true either but they won't blow their heads off over it.

I have no sympathy for this family.
The young man's PARENTS are the ones who put him in that position, which has been grotesquely misrepresented by these PRO-illegal immigration groups and the press.
Because we are after all speaking about Texas, a state where he would have been able to get in-state tuition rates and more than likely would NOT have had his citizenship status checked when he enrolled in school, it's much more likely he would have been admitted under a "diversity" quota than a citizen.
The people exploiting this young mans suicide should be ashamed of themselves.

Welcome to the L.A. Times. The paper with a political news agenda and never unbiased reporting.

"Life owes no one anything."
I agree with paxil on that point, Life owes you nothing - he should have weathered the storm - he would have been stronger for it by continuing on with his life. Sometimes you have to take life by the balls you know what i mean?
I feel for his family though.

I agree with you Orly.
I feel sorrow for the family losing their son. On the other hand, suicide is a coward's way out. I make no bones about that fact. He should have gotten over whatever his problems were and found a viable, legal solution to them. I have helped many and been helped but no one has ever given easy street to me or my friends.
My condolences to the family.

After his death, his family discovered a letter saying he had recently been accepted to the University of Texas-Pan American, pending his new ACT score and transcript.
I'm sorry for his family, but this is just another senseless suicide, as it's obvious he was heading for college. And yeah, they're exploiting this tragedy for their own ends.

This is a terrible story, but to be honest about it, all I can say is why did he and the family do absolutely nothing to get legal or just go back where they came from? Now he most likely will be the poster child for all those illegal immigrant loving activists. Plain and simple, come here Legally or get the hell out.
